Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the Rim or handle of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. "Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice.

Lesbians wed in prison

Two inmates at the Edmonton Institution for Women tied the knot yesterday. Inside prison walls a small quiet ceremony was performed by a minister. This ceremony is the second of its kind in Canada. Two men were married in Ontario's Bath Institution in November 2006.

The wedding was performed by a minister and the women were allowed to be un-handcuffed and wear their street clothes. Unfortunately for the happy couple, they were not allowed to consumate the union. Prison policy prevents the inmates from spending the night in the same cell.

One of the inmates is serving a two year, nine month and 30 day sentence for assualt with a weapon, break and enter and aggravated assault. She will be released on November 18.

The other is in for the long haul. Six years for maunslaughter.

The union brings paranoia to the guards. They believe there should not be special priveledges for the two women.

Face of Jack the Ripper

After reviewing 118 year old police witness statements, British analysts have developed a composite police drawing of what they believe may be Jack the Ripper's face.

Thirteen witness statements were used to depict the notorious killer with bushy eye brows, dark mustache and receding hair line. It is a popular misconception that no one ever saw the killers face. The statements bared enough similarity to have police believe the witnesses were talking about the same man. Analysts also found the man was approximately 5'-5" to 5'-7" tall and was between the ages of 25 and 35.

The legend of Jack the Ripper is so infamous because more than 200 people have been accused of the east London murders and over 10 people have admitted to being the killer. Suspects range from "Alice in Wonderland" author Lewis Caroll to the royal families obstetrician Sir John Williams.

Mom decides if you live to 100

New research has led scientists to believe that living to 100 may depend on how young your mother was when she gave birth to you.

The University of Chicago's team of scientists found that you are twice as likely to live to be 100 if your mother gave birth to you before the age of 25 than if your mother was older.

The study found that first born children were more likely to live to 100 than younger siblings. The team concluded that this was due to the fact that the oldest children were born when their mothers were under the age of 25. Also, women are three to five times more likely to live to be 100 than men.

Nancy Grace: Is she a murderer?

Is Nancy Grace, host of CNN's hit talk show: Nancy Grace, a murderer? Well according to the family of Melinda Duckett she is. In a recent interview on her show, Grace grilled Duckett about her whereabouts on the night her 2 year old son went missing.

The day after the show aired, Melinda Duckett committed suicide. Her family blamed it on emotional distress that was a direct result of the grilling Nancy Grace gave her.

Melinda Duckett was considered the prime suspect in her 2 year old son's disappearance. So this writer thinks that she had emotional distress from what she may have done.

Mayor Blake Finally Listens

Fort McMurray Mayor Melissa Blake and other members of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo are heading to Nisku this week to fight against the Kearl Project Hearings.

They will be fighting for a responsible and proper growth plan for the community. Along with that, they are upset that the Kearl proposal calls for a fly-in-fly-out which does nothing for the social and economic burden already stressing the community.

Coincidentally, people have been recently commenting on how the mayor should start to take control of the region she is in charge of. It appears as though the mayor has finally listened and stepped up to the plate.

OJ's Book and Movie Deal Cancelled

The infamous book and movie titled "If I did it" where the words "I Did It" would have been bigger and in red has been cancelled according to Fox Corp. The cancellation comes after a large amount of public outcry regarding the tasteless material the book and movie would have presented.

Fox Corp agreed that it was not a decision they were happy with and decided to pull it as soon as the public spoke up.

I guess that means at least 1 murderer will not be cashing in on their crimes this holiday season.

Santa Klein

Ralph Klein is about to step down as Premier of Alberta, but not before spending a little more before Christmas. $930 million to be exact. He plans on spending this on money on building projects ranging from roads, to schools, to hospitals, to sporting centres.

The money is expected to start rolling out about 1 week before the first ballot of the leadership, and about a month before Klein officially steps down. This latest spending spree does have its one disadvantage, and that is no more cash gifts to all of the residents of Alberta like many have been speculating for months.
